The Kent Police Department issued the following warning regarding warm weather and residential burglaries:
Important Crime Trend – Please Share – Residential Burglaries!!
We continue to see residential burglaries occur with the method of entry predominantly through an open window or door. Most recently, we have seen a string of these burglaries occurring at night while the homeowners sleep. The targeted locations have been homes next to inlets or cul-de-sacs. All victim residences were entered through windows left open due to recent warm days. At three residences where the suspects were denied entry, video revealed suspects attempted to gain entry but could not get the window or door open.
Warm weather is upon us and we anticipate open windows and doors will still be the norm. Please be sure to secure your windows and doors at night and when you leave the house. It’s also a good practice to secure any windows or doors that are not within your sight. We had a case where a purse was left on a dining room table and access was made through an open door while the homeowner was home and the purse was grabbed. The owner just couldn’t see the door.
As a reminder, if you see any suspicious activity, please do not hesitate to call 911.
