Kent Parks, Recreation & Community Services is inviting all to a series of public meetings regarding the renovation of Kherson Park in downtown Kent.

The City of Kent is initiating the concept design phase for the renovation of Kherson Park, located at 307 West Gowe Street (map below).

Under the management of the Parks, Recreation & Community Services (PRCS) Department, this project will establish a new vision for this park, emphasizing the need for green space, place-making and community gathering spaces in downtown Kent.

“Please come and see what the future holds for this green space.”

KHERSON PARK IS BEING RENOVATED
The concept design phase for the renovation of Kherson Park, located downtown at 307 West Gowe Street, is underway! This project emphasizes the need for green space, place-making and community gathering spaces in downtown Kent.

The renovation will also celebrate Kent’s legacy of aero and outer space innovation by memorializing the City’s role in the development of the Lunar Roving Vehicle. The Economic & Community Development (ECD) Department is leading a fundraising campaign to help land an interactive Lunar Rover replica at Kherson Park! The three LRVs used in Apollo missions 15, 16 and 17 are still on the moon today; they were designed, built and tested here in Kent, and recently designated as historical landmarks by the King County Landmarks Commission.

The City recently approved a contract with Northwest Playground (Cre8play) to construct an interactive replica of the Lunar Rover, which will be accompanied by the life-size Astronaut figure currently on display at the ShoWare center. This space-themed installation will be one component of the planned improvements at Kherson Park.

The Economic & Community Development (ECD) Department is leading a fundraising campaign to help land the Lunar Rover replica at Kherson Park.

One reply on “Learn about Kherson Park renovation at upcoming public meetings”

  1. I always wondered why they didn’t do outdoor movies here: huge blank wall, cute little park, etc.
