Last week, the Kent Chamber of Commerce presented a check for $5,500 to the Kentridge Robotics Team #3786, funds of which were raised at the annual chamber gala in May.

This was from a “Fund An Item” part of the organization’s auction, targeted at Workforce Development Programs.

“These students need these programs which are geared to help them develop a sense of direction with regard to their education and career,” the chamber said. “Giving them exposure to a variety of careers they may have never been exposed to, giving them tools to develop a plan for reaching their goals, and encourage them to stay focused on their education to become a strong leader are just a few of the reasons we chose our Workforce Development Programs as our Fund an Item for our 2019 President’s Gala.”

About the Kentridge Chargers Robotics Team 3786
The Kentridge Robotics Club’s primary competition is the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. In this competition they are Team #3786, The Chargers.

The Kentridge Robotics Club runs STEM Club, their elementary educational outreach program, focusing on low income schools in the district.

“We strive to make a local impact through our community and outreach initiatives. Our educational outreach programs engage youth in STEM and robotics related activities. Our Women in STEM Initiative aims to break stereotypes and inspire young girls to get involved in STEM. These are all completely club funded projects.”

Robotics is mentored by adults who work in a variety of different STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers, and are often parents of students at Kentridge.

Congrats to all!
