The Washington State Department of Transportation will be doing some nighttime work on SR 181 in Kent (SR 516 to W. James St.) starting Monday, March 25, through the end of the summer.

Nighttime construction work planned on SR 181 in Kent

SR 516 to W. James Street Paving and ADA Compliance SR 181 milepost 5.32 to milepost 5.89

WSDOT contractor crews will repair and pave about a half mile of SR 181 between SR 516 and West James Street. Crews will also add pedestrian curb ramps.

WORK SCHEDULE:

        • Sunday, March 24, to the morning of Tuesday, March 26 – Northbound and southbound lane closures at the intersection of SR 516/SR 181 and the intersection of SR 181/Meeker Street from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. Lane closures will not affect both directions at the same time.
        • Monday, March 25, to the afternoon of Wednesday, March 27 – The right lane of northbound SR 181 between SR 516 and South 238th Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
        • Wednesday, March 27, to the afternoon of Thursday, March 28 – The right lane of southbound SR 181 between SR 516 and South 238th Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
        • Tuesday, March 26, to the morning of Friday, March 29 – The right lane of northbound SR 181 between SR 516 and South 238th Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
        • Thursday, March 28, to the afternoon of Friday, March 29 – The right lane of northbound SR 181 between SR 516 and South 238th Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Beginning in March, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will repair and pave about a half mile of SR 181 between SR 516 and West James Street. Crews will also add pedestrian curb ramps. This construction will address aging pavement before major repairs are needed. Work is expected to be complete on July 31, 2019.

NIGHTTIME WORK
During the project, crews will perform nighttime construction on SR 181 in Kent. Nighttime work in Kent is expected to begin March 25, 2019 and continue through end of summer 2019.

NIGHTTIME WORK AND ITS IMPACT
Residents living near the work zone along SR 181 will hear noise from construction equipment and vehicles, as well as concrete cutting. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and thank you in advance for your patience.

NOISE MITIGATION
As they work, crews will take the following steps to limit noise:

        • Use approved bed liners in trucks.
        • Avoid excessive tailgate banging.
