The Kent City Council at its March 5 regular meeting approved a resolution to authorize a land exchange with KOA Corp. and remove use restrictions on surplus land and to authorize the KOA to construct, maintain and operate replacement campsites for the Lower Russell Road Levee Improvement Project.

The Council also honored its Employee of the Month for March to Andrew (Andy) Martin, a maintenance worker in the city Parks and Recreation department. Mayor Dana Ralph said that Martin began working for the city in 1991 as a sports official, “a bit of a theme here. We’ve got a lot of folks that start out as summer help part time in our Parks Department and go on to careers here.”

Martin was hired full time in 1998 as a maintenance worker and promoted in 2004 as a Maintenance Worker 3 and at a Maintenance Worker 4 in 2006 and is a lead worker over a crew in the Parks and Recreation open spaces program, the mayor said.

The Council confirmed reappointment for a three-year term of Randy Furukawa to the Kent Parks and Recreation Commission.
