Kentwood High School put into lockdown Monday morning

On Monday morning, June 4, a “vague threat” was posted on social media, aimed at the Kent School District.

As a precaution, Kentwood High School was placed into lockdown at 9:25 a.m., and a student possibly in possession of a weapon was taken into custody.

The lockdown was lifted at 9:47 a.m., the district announced.

“Our staff is working in cooperation with the Kent Police Department (KPD) to investigate this threat,” Safety Services Supervisor Timothy Kovich said. “The threat was non-specific and did not name specific schools or individuals. The school district, in conjunction with law enforcment, began taking every preliminary precaution possible and continues to investigate this posting.”
