The King County Target Zero Task Force, which includes police agencies throughout the county as well as the Washington State Patrol, will be out looking for violations of five of the most prevalent causes of collisions that result in death and serious injury.

Those five types of collisions include:

  • Impairment
  • Distraction
  • Speed
  • Seat Belts
  • Not yielding to Pedestrians

Along with stepped up enforcement, the Task Force will be reaching out to the public through the media and social media to raise awareness of these issues and change driver behavior.

“When you look at the data and see how these five factors contribute to traffic deaths and injuries, you immediately see the importance of trying to impact those types of driver behaviors” said Sgt. Brian Williams of the Auburn Police Department and Law Enforcement Liaison for the task force.

Agencies participating in the campaign include: Algona, Auburn, Bellevue, Black Diamond, Burien, Covington, Des Moines, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent, Lake Forest Park, Maple Valley, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Normandy Park, Pacific, Port of Seattle, Redmond, Sammamish, SeaTac, Seattle, Shoreline, Snoqualmie, and Tukwila Police Departments, and the Washington State Patrol.
