Meet Kent Mayoral and City Council Candidates
Community news site iLoveKent.net is hosting Kent candidate debates on Sept. 21 and 28 at the Kent Senior Center (600 E. Smith St., Kent, WA 98030), so Kent voters can hear where the candidates stand on important issues. The debate for Kent mayoral candidates Jim Berrios and Dana Ralph will be Thursday, September 21. The debate for Kent City Council candidates for positions 2, 4 and 6 will be on Thursday, September 28.
Both events will be 2 ½ hours long, beginning at 6 PM with an informal, one-hour meet-and-greet with the candidates, followed by a 90-minute debate, beginning at 7 PM. The debates will be moderated by Greg Haffner of Curran Law Firm and be broadcast and recorded by Kent TV21. iLoveKent publisher Dana Neuts and Haffner will select the candidate questions from those submitted by readers. Questions are being accepted through Monday, September 18 at https://ilovekent.net/submit-debate-questions. Candidates will not see the questions prior to the debates.
“We want these debates to be accessible to as many Kent residents as possible, so we’re hosting them in the evenings in a central location. Residents who are not able to attend will be able to watch them on Kent TV21 or on-demand at their convenience,” Neuts said.
“We are encouraged by the level of engagement we’ve had from readers so far. They’re submitting great questions,” Neuts added. “As we celebrate our 10th year in the community, we are excited to be able to facilitate this conversation between voters and candidates for office.”
In addition to the meet-and-greet and debates, iLoveKent will offer voter registration and light refreshments. Sponsors will also host tables at the event including presenting sponsor Marti Reeder of John L. Scott, gold sponsor Denali Federal Credit Union, and silver sponsors the 33rd District Democrats and 47th District Democrats.
