Mill Creek Middle School is a very diverse school with students from many cultures. Last Tuesday, March 20, they invited students and staff to come to school dressed in traditional clothing from their family’s cultural background. They called it “Share Your Culture Day.” It was part of Spirit Week and was also intended to amp up for multicultural events going on throughout the rest of this school year.

Kent School District has families that speak over 130 different languages, making it the most diverse school district in the State. The staff at Mill Creek wanted some way to show the students that they were standing with them in solidarity. They ordered diversity t-shirts that they wore during Spirit Week and will wear every Friday.

“There are not a lot of ways to express that we are standing with them, so we got the shirts,” said Marit Murry, Mill Creek site coordinator for Communities In Schools of Kent.

While most students had to rush off to catch their school buses, at the end of the school day, a quick photo was taken of some of the participants.
