If you haven’t registered your cat or dog in the City of Kent, you need to, or face potential fines. Starting April 2, Regional Animal Services of King County canvassers will go door to door in Kent to make sure cats and dogs over eight weeks old are licensed. The licensing rules apply to both indoor and outdoor pets.

You can recognize the canvassers by their county ID badges, logo shirts, business cards and pet licensing documents. As employees of King County, they must following strict guidelines of professional conduct. They will not look in your windows or through your fences to look for pets.

Licenses for spayed or neutered pets are $30 each. Unspayed and unneutered pets are $60 each. If your pet is unlicensed, there is a $125 fine for spayed and neutered animals and $250 for unspayed or unneutered pets. Discounts are available for disabled and senior residents as well as those with juvenile pets.

Why license?

  • It’s the law.
  • It is easier to reunite owners with lost pets. Licensed pets get a free ride home if found.
  • You can save animals’ lives by funding shelter care for injured and lost animals and pet adoptions.
  • Funding helps investigate and prosecuting cases of animal cruelty and neglect.
  • Funding helps provide resources to address complaints about vicious or nuisance animals.

Pet licenses are available at Kent City Hall or online at KentPetLicense.com. Any major concerns should be directed to [email protected] or 206-296-2712.
