A man was struck and killed by a pickup truck near Lake Fenwick Road South and Reith Road (map below) in Kent Friday night, Aug. 23.

Police say that late Friday evening at 10:43 p.m., Kent Police were dispatched to the report of a fatal collision involving a pickup truck versus pedestrian in that area. Dispatchers received 911 calls that indicated that a male was in the roadway unconscious and not breathing.

Kent Officers arrived within two minutes, confirming he was not conscious and without a pulse. Officers immediately began life saving measures in hopes of reviving the male. Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and King County Medic Personnel also responded and took over lifesaving efforts.

Sadly, the male victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:57 p.m.

Kent Police Traffic Investigators were called out to investigate the incident. Initial information indicates that the deceased, a 37-year old Seattle resident, was crossing Reith Road, just west of Lake Fenwick Road. The driver, a 53-year old male Kent resident, was traveling eastbound in his pickup truck on Reith Rd. and struck the male in the roadway.

Police add that the victim crossed the roadway just west of the intersection – not in a crosswalk – and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the collision. The location of the collision is on a curve near the base of a steep hill.

The driver, who remained on scene following the collision, exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI.

Kent Traffic Investigators will continue the investigation.
