Cleaning Up Kent, One Street and One Spot at a Time
It is important that we can all be proud of our City. We want clean, safe streets and neighborhoods. That’s why I am excited about the success of our Adopt-a-Street and Adopt-a-Spot programs, and I hope that we can continue to grow them.
Adopt-a-Street: Individuals, groups and organizations adopt a street, picking up litter along a particular roadway to beautify it and prevent pollutants from going into the storm drains. The City provides reflective vests, gloves, litter “grabbers,” trash bags, “work crew ahead” signs, and we pick up the full trash bags. We currently have 25 active volunteer adopters.
Adopt-a-Spot: Another way to help us clean up the City is by adopting a spot – whether it is a traffic island, a block in your neighborhood, or a public space. The City provides the supplies; you provide the labor. We ask that you make a two-year commitment to the program, and you do at least four cleanups during the year. This is a new program, and we already have 13 active spot adopters!
