Kent-Community leader Hira Singh Bhullar on Friday, Mar. 1 announced he will be running for a seat on the Kent City Council.

He will be running for position #3, which is currently held by Les Thomas.

“I have a strong passion for public service,” Bhullar said. “I believe my background in business and my experience in Kent non-profits will be a benefit as Kent continues to grow and change over the next few years,” said Hira Singh Bhullar.

Bhullar has lived in Kent for over 10 years. He serves as a board member for Kent Youth & Family Services, Kent YMCA, Kent Schools Foundation, Sunrise Rotary Club and Khalsa Gurmat School.

In his professional career, Bhullar has over 22 years of professional experience in different business sectors while working in IT. As a Senior Software Developer at Starbucks Coffee, he supports retail operations, supply chain and sales data. He’s previously supported Human Resources, Payroll, Accounts Payable and General Ledger at US Xpress trucking company, Flooring Materials manufacturing at Mohawk Industries and IT Sales Team and Education at IBM.

“My priority as Councilmember will be to support programs and policies that build strong communities and create opportunities for every child, family and resident of our city. I will help Kent thrive by making our diversity a strength, find creative ways to generate revenue for city, creating good jobs that support families, improving transportation, making every neighborhood safe and increasing access to local government,” Bhullar added.

Hira lives with his wife and two kids on the East Hill in Kent.
