Improvements to the intersection of West Meeker Street and 4th Ave South in downtown Kent are underway, including:

  • Addition of curb bulb-outs to decrease street crossing widths and improve safety
  • Installation of benches, a bike rack and trash can
  • Addition of landscaping
  • Upgraded ADA ramps and pedestrian push buttons
  • New concrete crosswalks

During construction, the streets will remain open to traffic and emergency vehicles on weekdays. If a road closure is required, it will be done on a weekend and a signed detour will be in place. Driveways to businesses will remain open and accessible during construction. Pedestrians should follow any posted detour routes.

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-December.

The total project cost is approximately $580,000, with $250,000 coming from a grant from the Washington State Improvement Board’s Complete Streets program. The balance will be paid for out of street funds.
