EDITOR’S NOTE: ‘Just Jeff’ – aka Jeff Heiss – is our newest columnist:

I’ve done a lot of things for the first time.

I consistently bump up against new things in life and question whether to do them. Can I do it? Will I fail? Will I get hurt? These questions run through my head. I’ve never done ‘it’ before and I don’t know whether I will like it, enjoy it or worse…will I do it well.

Yet, when I look at my life, I’ve done a lot of things for the 1st time. In fact, everything I do or have done, I had to do for the first time; walk, ride a bike, drive a car, paint a house, speak in public, skydive…

In order to do anything, I have to do it for the 1st time; despite, or in spite of, fear or uncertainty or doubt or concern; inexperience.

So yes, I’ve done a lot of things for the 1st time and I suppose, or at least I hope, I will do a lot more things for the 1st time, before this life of mine is over.
