New Police Chief Rafael “Raf” Padilla shares his wishes with outgoing Chief Ken Thomas at City Hall on Friday, May 25

On Friday, May 25, the Kent Police Department, city staff and numerous residents said “Farewell and Thank You” to outgoing Police Chief Ken Thomas for serving this community for over 29 years.

“During those years Chief Thomas was an integral part of this department and community,” police said in a statement. “In 1994 he was part of a team that earned the Western States Information Network Narcotics Drug Unit Of The Year for Washington. He also pioneered several programs including Intelligence Led Policing, School Safety Commander Position, and Diversity Task Force, as well as elevating the departments overall community engagement.”

As we previously reported, Thomas is now the Police Chief for neighboring Des Moines, where he started May 16.
