New name, new logo, same fire service

Effective January 1, 2017, the Kent Regional Fire Authority will become the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority. The name change was adopted by the RFA Governance Board last July to better reflect RFA services that extend beyond the Kent community.

“Our name will be different, business cards will have a new logo, the patch on our uniforms will likely change, but what stays the same is that we are still YOUR fire department,” says the Kent RFA website.

Currently, the Regional Fire Authority serves a residential population of more than 175,000, second only to Seattle within King County. They cover a 60-square mile radius which includes 11 fire stations and about 260 staff. They answer more than 24,000 calls annually in Kent and beyond the Kent city limits.

Though the name change will become effective on Sunday, the change is expected to take 18 to 24 months to fully implement across the organization. Despite the change, call responses and services will not change.
