From Kent Regional Fire Authority:

A commercial building housing several offices suffered minor damage after a fire started on the exterior of the two-story structure in the 10600 block of SE 256 Street.

Firefighters from the Kent RFA were dispatched at 6:40 pm after a passerby saw smoke coming from the north side of the building.

The fire was quickly extinguished and confined to one exterior wall. The cause of the fire was improperly discarded smoking material in landscape beauty bark that spread to the wall.

SE 256 Street was closed for an hour in both directions while firefighters worked on the fire.

Drivers are reminded that when police and firefighters block roads near incidents, it is unsafe and illegal to drive around those barriers. Emergency workers and equipment need a safe area to work. Just like construction sites, please give them a brake.
