Kent pedestrian killed in early morning collision

KENT, Wash., Oct. 1, 2012 — A 79-year old Kent man died at the scene this morning after being struck by a Ford Escort on Kent-Kangley Rd. near the intersection of Kent-Kangley and 144th SE. Dressed in dark clothing, the pedestrian crossed the busy road and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound just before 6 a.m. this morning. The 63 year old driver was shaken following the accident but was not injured. Based on initial reports, it does not appear that weather or speed contributed to the accident. As investigators complete their fact finding, partial lane closures remain in effect.

Kent Assistant Police Chief Pat Lowery said, “At this time, it appears that the pedestrian simply chose to cross this busy roadway while less than a block from a marked cross walk and traffic signals.”
