Indoor Relief to Beat the Heat: Kent provides air conditioned relief to residents
Kent, Wash. – July 27, 2009– Due to the unusually high temperatures that are expected throughout Western Washington during the week, the City of Kent is offering residents and visitors two air-conditioned locations to beat the heat. All ages are welcome in both facilities.
The Kent Senior Activity Center, 600 E. Smith St. Kent, WA
The Kent Senior Center is located at the intersection of E. Smith St. and Jason Ave. N. It is a spacious building with a deli, café, and coffee bar. Water and other beverages are available free of charge.
Hours of operation are:
Mon., Thur., Fri.: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Tue. : 8:30 am – 10:00 pm
Wed.: 8:30 am – 9:00 pm
The Kent Commons, 525 4 Ave. N., Kent, WA
The Kent Commons is located at the intersection of W. James St. and 4 Ave. N. This facility has an air-conditioned room dedicated to those looking to beat the heat. Hours of operation are:
Mon. – Fri.: 6:00 am – 9:00 pm
Sat.: 8:00 am – 9:00 pm
Stay Cool
- Stay indoors as much as possible in an air-conditioned environment
- Cover windows that receive morning and afternoon sunshine
- Wear light-weight clothing
- Check-up on elderly relatives and neighbors
- Drink Liquids
- Drink plenty of water or other non-alcoholic/non-caffeinated fluids
- Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink
- If You Go Outside
- Limit your exposure to sunlight or wait until the morning/evening hours
- Use sunscreen with a high SPF (sun protection factor) rating
- NEVER leave children or pets in a vehicle – even with the windows rolled down
